We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Angela Okolo, a distinguished pediatrician and neonatologist, an active participant in WIRhE activities since its inception in 2019, and a valued member of our WIRhE Africa Board.
Having Professor Okolo on our WIRhE Africa Board was a true honor; enabling us to work alongside her and to learn from her extraordinary depth of experience, wisdom, and compassion. Her lifetime of service to neonatal and child health in Nigeria, her global commitment to advancing care for the most vulnerable, and her unwavering advocacy for women in medicine left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Professor Okolo’s leadership and scholarship shaped pediatric and neonatal practice across Nigeria through her academic work, her mentorship of generations of physicians, and her national leadership with multiple organizations, including the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian Society of Neonatal Medicine. Her advocacy for improved neonatal care and systems continues to save lives and inspire progress.
We are grateful for her guidance, her generosity of spirit, and the legacy she leaves behind. Our thoughts are with her family, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by her remarkable work.
